| A. Define the biblical/philosophical basis for your home school. Begin by prayerfully considering writing your own statements that represent the goals and objectives you beleive God has for your family. These statements will vary from family to family and will certainly change with time and experience. View this step as an ongoing process! |
B. Give your home school a name, selecting one that represents or "speaks" of your basic goals and objectives. Also, you may want to design a logo, motto, and a business letterhead. |
C. Look for a home school support group in your area. If you are unable to locate one, in Indiana call IAHE at 317-859-1202. |
D. Decide when you will withdraw your child from school. Unless circumstances demand otherwise, wait until the end of the semester or school year to take your high school children out of public school. If Indy Plus is keeping your records, we will send a Request for Student Records to your former school. |
E. Decide how you will respond to your friends and relatives reservations regarding home schooling. You will find many people who are opposed to home education, but usually it is because they are unfamiliar with the subject. Home school parents should be positive and polite when talking to these people. We suggest you coach your children in terms of their response, so as to avoid an embarrassing situation. |
